RRoD strikes AGAIN!!!

Oh Microsoft… how I loathe that you put out a faulty system that has such great games. I bought my 360 back in 2006 and I had RROD once (Red Rings of death) while it was within the 3 year extended warranty so I order my Xbox 360 coffin (the white box Microsoft used to send back to have the broken system shipped back in) and sent it in and had it fixed and sent back to me within 3 weeks. Not too bad and it did not cost me anything. Now, my system that was previously “fixed” just crapped out on me again and is not in warranty. I checked and Microsoft charges $99.00 to fix it. I can get a used referbished system for less that that thru Gamestop so if all else fails, that is the route I think I will go. In the meantime I am tying to fix it myself. I have the system all torn apart and cleaned up. I am wondering if anyone here has tried either of the 2 methods below…

Sending the unit out

One options I have found where people will fix the system for around $35 – $45 but you have to send your system out to them. I don’t know how much I trust this but if anyone has tried it or knows of a legit one in particular that they have used, let me know.

RROD Repair Kit
Posted by: bigcc9
This is an options I am more secure with since I am a bit of a “hands on” type of person. Like I said, I already have the system torn apart and have checked out some online tutorials. I think I am going to try it without the kit at first (just cleaning up the system and replacing the thermal compound) but if that does not work I think I will be buying one of these!

Newness: Call of Duty: Black Ops

I need to make a post about this though I have yet to play it which pains me. The new COD game is out if you didn’t know (sarcasm anyone?) and they released 3 different editions of the game. Why not! Why spend $59.99 on a game when you can spend more than double on the game and an RC car!!! On to the breakdown!

Call of Duty: Black Ops Regular Edition

Might as well start with the one most frugal folks are getting. I barely ever buy anything other than the regular editions. I am a GAMER, I want to play the GAME! This edition come with the game. Yup, it comes with the game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Hardened Edition

Hardened edition. For those that want to waste money, but not get anything for the extra money. What “extra” do you get? The game comes in a metal case (like ALL special editions… I want to know when this gimmick is going to get old), a medal with display case (I don’t need this for any reason whatsoever), four exclusive co-op levels (one of the only things I would be interested in), and an Xbox Live of PSN Network Avatar outfit! Oh boy! An extra $20 for some co-op maps that will probably be released in a pack in a few months with some others for $15? I think I’ll pass on Hardened…

Call of Duty: Black Ops Prestige Edition

Prestige Edition, the big daddy, the bank breaker! Retailing at $149.99, which will buy you 2 new games and $30 worth of Microsoft or PSN points this beast comes with the above mentioned Hardened Edition stuff as well as… A remote controlled track with a camera built in? Yeah… I thought the COD that came with the night vision goggles was a pretty cool idea but I don’t know what I think of this. I can’t see anyone using this RC car past one or two full battery charges which would only last about 10 minutes. I would rather pass on the RC car and get another game with the extra cash.

New Release – Dead Rising 2

Zombie lovers rejoice! Dead Rising 2 is here! Now all I hope is that this one has readable text and a better save system that doesn’t leave you screwed if you save at the wrong time such as I did. Now onto the special editions!

Outbreak Edition – This looks to be a European or maybe just Australian special edition which includes the game (PAL Version), 12” Fully Articulated Zombie Figurine, Sports Fan Theme Pack (whatever that is), Tape It Or Die Catalogue (your very own guide to making household objects into zombie killing combo weapons), Dead Rising Sun (full length Zombie movie, set in the world of Dead Rising) and The making of Dead Rising 2. Seems like a pretty sweet collection, but not for the price. Not even close.

High Stakes Edition – This one is for the High Rollers out there, the big daddy of collectors editions! The High Stakes Edition is pretty damn sick looking and comes with the following: Dead Rising 2 game (of course), Poker Set in a black high-impact case sporting the Fortune City Logo, Fortune City Visitor Map, Terror Is Reality XVII admission ticket with redemption code for the unique ‘Psycho’ costume, and The chance at discovering the ‘Golden’ Terror Is Reality XVII admission ticket which only ONE of the DR2 High Stakes Edition will have this which is redeemable for a 6 inch figure. Why this doesn’t include the video like the AUS version is beyond me.

Zombrex Edition – Here is the regular collectors edition. Typical metal case but this has a few extras: DR2 game, steel case, Making of disc, Zombrex syringe pen (the coolest item in the set), Zombrex prescription notepad, Zombrex safety card, Zombrex sales brochure, XMB dynamic theme, and DR2 Hardcover art book. Pretty decent for the “low end” collectors edition.

And as a “bonus” item, I thought I would throw this one up. It is an auction for the jacket as seen on the main character in the game. This one is listed as a “Private Auction” for one person so I wouldn’t suggest bidding, but still a cool item to check out.

REACH for your 360 controller…

Yeah, if you are into current video game at all then you obviously know what game got released today. I used to not be a fan of the Halo series but it definitely grew on me. I started with Halo 3, then played 2, and also played ODST so I am going to check out Reach for sure.

I thought I would post up some Halo items but surprisingly there is not much out there! The best things I found were some badass Custom Case Mods.

Here are my favorite current case mods I had found:

I am diggin this one since it is a nice flat looking black, but I can’t tell what the carved out logo on the top is. The guy took some good pictures but just failed to get a good shot of the top.

This one looks VERY detailed so I wish he would have taken better pictures. I like the design of this one, but I lay my system horizontal so this wouldn’t work for me. Also, what is with the attached Xbox Live camera?

???

This one is a sweet Halo 3 mod. I am a fan of the black with blue LED glow and this one looks well done!

As far as collecting goes the “limited” editions systems were the best items I found:

I found this sweet Halo 1 limited editions original Xbox system in mint condition which I thought was pretty badass! I know some people still play the OG Xbox, but personally I just plan on downloading Halo 1 for my 360 like I did with Halo 2.

Of course, the Halo Reach limited edition system. Pretty slick looking. I am diggin the Xbox re-design as it is but if I decided to get a new Xbox 360, I think I will go with a nice regular black one. Pretty sweet that it comes with 2 wireless controllers though!

And the “Oddball” auction…

Yeah… COSPLAY!!!
