You Can’t Beat It: Battletoads

Welcome to another edition of “You Can’t Beat It”. Today I bring you Battletoads from saurusandbones, beautifully still sealed in its original packaging. Did anyone ever play through this game? Sure at first it looked like a knockoff of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles but the game had its own ideas and was generally a lot of fun…til you got to the racing level. According to numerous sites on the web, there are 13 levels but I don’t believe that. I don’t believe there is a level after the racing level…outside of someone beating it on Youtube, I’ve never seen anyone pass it. Does the game have an ending? I truly believe it doesn’t.

Zelda For The CD-I Was A Good Idea Right?

So Philips decides to get in the ring with a home console system and what better way to help the launch than to license the Legend of Zelda with not one but three games? They sure thought it was a good idea…the rest of the world, not so much. It’s pretty unanimous that ALL three Zelda games are some of the worst games ever made. I genuinely feel privileged that I have never played them but xanderdelarge is giving you the chance to own two of the three and allow you experience the misery and horror at home….it all depends on how deep your pockets are.

Sega Game Gear

Remember how stoked you were that Sega was releasing a handheld system that was not only in color but had amazing graphics? Remember how heavy that thing was? Remember how small that screen was? Remember how if you tilted just a little bit you couldn’t see the screen? What a bummer. That’s how I felt back then when I finally got my hands on it. made_to_sellout is unloading a Game Gear along with a Game Genie and 4 games. I wonder if I still feel the same…probably

Get The Power! Nintendo Power!

By 1987, Nintendo was THE biggest home console you could buy and to capitalize on their popularity, they started printing up the Nintendo Fun Club, a fan club that would give tips on games and also previews of upcoming games. The newsletter ran for 7 issues before switching over to a full fledged magazine in the form of Nintendo Power. If you had a subscription to the Nintendo Fun Club, you were automatically mailed a free issue of Nintendo Power. The cover featured the biggest and most hyped game of the era, Super Mario Bros. 2 and pew51 is offering you the chance to relive the golden days of the 8 Bit era with the premier issue. I haven’t seen this thing in years but I know I have it somewhere…I need to go digging for this thing.

3DO

Did you ever have the “privilege” of playing the Panasonic 3DO? I use the word privilege very loosely as the system was pretty crappy. Nothing ever seemed to work properly…my buddy received a system for Christmas the year it was released (1993 maybe?) and we just could never get it to work correctly. Eventually it just sat there collecting dust (and still does ironically enough). cryoman1 is bringing you a working system, 8 controllers and 50 games which I think is the entire run for the system. Not too bad on the price either…maybe you’ll have better luck with this one than my buddy did

Pac Man Bank

Nice little piece of retro gaming memorabilia here. adamnoeve is selling a Pac Man bank from 1980. Still has the original box and all parts are in working order. I never understood what was up with the bank robber mask he was wearing in the promo ads. As much I love Pac Man… Ms. Pac Man > Pac Man

Narc In The Box

How did our parents let us play Narc when it was released? Granted the NES version is a toned down version of the original arcade game but still. You’re a cop who kills drug dealers, that’s it. You shoot them with either your machine gun or your rocket launcher…and when you hit them with a rocket, they’re limbs fly off. Looking back, I can’t believe my folks were cool with it…what I’m not cool with it the Buy it Now price that rayman617 threw on this original Narc NES game. Sure it’s in the box but what do you know about this that I don’t?

After Burner

Alright so it’s not the sit down After Burner machine but its the next best thing. I used to love going to the mall and sitting in that thing. clc803 has set a super low Buy It Now but the kicker is that you have to pick it up so if you’re close to South Carolina, then please buy this. How cool would this be to have in your house?

E.T. Wall Hang

Besides Cheetahmen, I think it’s pretty safe to say that Atari’s E.T. is the worst video game ever made. Supposedly a million copies were dumped into a landfill to get rid of the incredible amount of garbage that was produced. raidovermoscow‘s E.T. wall hang and display is a cool piece of video game history though…but I wonder how many of these were produced being that there were millions of copies of the game produced. Regardless, a very cool piece.
